Stubborn As A Mule

Stubborn As A Mule

I have always been a stubborn, strong willed person. These “qualities” as I like to call them, have not always been helpful in many situations in my life. Refusing to wash or brush my hair and insisting I dress myself (skirts and cowgirl boots was the outfit of choice) left my Mom and sister pretty frustrated, I’m sure. My Dad could tell you stories of how my Mom would get me cleaned up and ready for church, take her eyes…

Snowy little bear cub

Snowy little bear cub

Our little adorable Australian Shepherd is completely unfazed by the freezing frigid and bitter cold that has arrived today here in upstate New York.  Olive will ask to go outside and then when I’m sure she is freezing to death she will refuse to come inside.  She will frolic and roll in the snow all by herself and it seems like she is having the time of her little puppy life.  When little Olive comes in she is so excited…

Snow is here get some quilting done!

Snow is here get some quilting done!

I am watching it snow as I am working on my spring wall hanging.  I might actually get this one done when spring actually arrives.  If you have cabin fever like I do order a spring wall hanging it was very motivating.  I enjoyed envisioning my daffodils popping up in my garden.  This also motivated me to check my seeds for my summer garden.  It is only 36 days until spring officially arrives.  I got the back pieces sewn together…

The Barn

The Barn

Written by Kate Morrison It’s 3:21 A.M. and I am scavenging through my cupboards, scouring through boxes of childhood treasures. Journals from third grade where I’d written about orphaned raccoons we were raising, and my Holstein heifer Betty. A stuffed cow my Grandpa Harold gave me that I can’t seem to part with. Black and white photos of my Grandma Joan Hallock as a child with a filly on her family’s farm. Some costume jewelry that belonged to Ethel Stokoe…

Best office assistant ever!

Best office assistant ever!

I spent several hours today with Olive trying to make sense of our filing cabinet. Armed with my label maker, box for burn items, and stuffed Kong toy for Olive we dove in.  Olive as always was an angel and happily chewed while I spread papers all over the basement. Once everything was empty I started labeling. I began with bills we pay monthly followed by other things we need to file.  After I was done I felt so relieved…

In a perfect world…

In a perfect world…

In a perfect world Jeff and I would be sitting in our great room on our super comfy couch with a roaring fire watching a epic movie.  Our dogs would be splayed out on the hardwood floor in front of the fireplace, with kitties scattered roosting on the beams of our log cabin.  Outside it would be gently snowing those huge beautiful flakes of snow.  Our open kitchen would be filled with the smell of pot roast cooking and apple…

A little to the right…

A little to the right…

As a kid we lived in Wisconsin for about 6 years. Anyone who has lived in Wisconsin knows not only about the frigid winter but also the loyal cheese heads. That right cheesehead, 50 % of the population is probably always wearing yellow and green on any given day. We lived in a very small town, and didn’t have cable. The wind kept blowing the antenna off the side of our house, so we sat it in the attic.  In the…

Dixie

Dixie

We have two adult breeding Giant Chinchillas here at Cacia Farms.  I love my girls Dixie and Annabelle they are both wonderful rabbits.  Annabelle tends to be a bit more sensible than Dixie she is quiet and doesn’t mind being handled or me handling her babies.  Dixie on the other hand is much more emotional about life in general.  Dixie hates being picked up and handled and does not appreciate me touching or going near her babies.  The one great…

Horses are good for your soul

Horses are good for your soul

It has been a very stressful week for various reasons. I have also been extremely busy and have been unable to see my horse. I went out this morning and spent some quality time with him. Ace is always up to something and he was full of love and personality. He listened to all of my complaints about life and it was so calming to just brush him.  I am very thankful for Ace and often don’t know what I…
